Nestled 3,000 feet deep into Havasu Canyon lies the land of the Havasupai. The native Indians are named for the area, Ha (meaning water) vasu (meaning blue) and pai (meaning people). Havasu is one of the longest tributaries on the south side of the Grand Canyon and runs through the center of the reservation which extends about 6 miles at either side. The area is known around the world for its blue waters and spectacular water falls. Havasu Creek, a year round stream with incredible aquamarine water flows by the village and descends another 1,400 feet passing over five waterfalls, the highest being Mooney Falls. 100 foot Havasu Falls has a beautiful deep blue pool beneath, surrounded by thick green vegetation. Despite the effort required to reach the falls, Havasu Canyon is considered by some to be one of the most beautiful places on Earth.

After many years of visiting and photographing Havasupai I am priviledged to be teaching workshops down there with Arizona Highways Photo Workshops and AOA (Arizona Outdoor Adventures). I can now share the beauty and magic of this spectacular place with photographers from around the world. Each time I go back, the area has grown and matured. New falls, new travertine terraces, new places to explore. Every time its different and each time everyone comes back with creative, unusual and spectacular images, a full belly and a lifetime of memories! Ever changing...Nature takes its course and we are merely blessed and grateful observers.
