Big Sur
The steep ridges of the remote Santa Lucia Range plunge down to a rocky, wave-battered coast, making an abrupt transition from wild peak to wild ocean.
The roadway follows this transition zone, snaking along precipitous headlands, crossing grassy meadows above ragged coves, and traversing thirty-three bridges that span deep canyons and gorges.
Endless days of exploration from Montana De Oro State Park north through Big Sur, Pt Lobos and finally Monterey. Revisiting the areas I wandered as a teenager living in Monterey. So many memories.
The rugged coastline is much the same. Even some of my secret access points are still there. Wonderful to come back with a camera and a photographers eye.
After teaching a workshop with Southwest Perspectives for 8 days I wandered alone back down the coast - scouting locations or next years workshop Much more work to do here.....another trip...next year!
